» Top 5 World War 2 Game Weapons

The WW2 Games HQ team were recently discussing (or arguing) some of our favorite WW2 game weapons.  We decided to create a post to review our top 5.  We have primarily rated these weapons based on 2 main things, their effectiveness and the ‘fun factor’.

5. M1897 Trench Gun – Call of Duty: World at War

Buy Call of Duty: World at War on Amazon.com or Amazon.co.uk

The trench gun is a common weapon in CoD WAW.  Although shotguns do often have their flaws (slow reload, low mag size etc), a shotgun like the trench gun shines in close combat situations.  In most cases it will kill with just a single shot and the sound it makes is awesome!

Strangely, the M1897 does not use damage multipliers; one pellet will deal the same damage regardless of the point of impact. This prevents a single pellet to the head counting as a head shot.

4. Rocket Launcher M1 (Bazooka) – Battlefield 1942

Buy Call of Duty: World at War on Amazon.com or Amazon.co.uk

In Battlefield 1942 the Rocket Launcher is used by both the US and British army. The reason we love this weapon so much is that it can destroy a tank in 2 single hits if you hit it in the rear. Light vehicles stand little to no chance from almost any angle. Gaming doesn’t get more satisfying than spotting a group on enemy soldiers, firing a rocket into the middle of them and seeing them fly across the screen! However aim is key, this is no sniper rifle but a bad aim or close hit could prove disastrous and see you re spawning quicker than you can say ‘BOOM’.

3. M1903 Springfield Sniper – Medal of Honor: Allied Assult

Buy Call of Duty: World at War on Amazon.com or Amazon.co.uk

Its hard to deny the joy of a sniper rifle.  As much as I have always hated sniper based missions, in the right setting, the Springfield is a dream to use.  It is one of 2 sniper rifles in MoH, the other being the Gewehr 43. Although the Gewehr has a faster rate of fire it can’t be denied that the scope on the Springfeild is smoother and easier to use.  It can be aimed quickly when in panic mode during a shootout which makes it a wonderfully efficient tool to keep in your back pocket.  We love the old skool bolt-action small arm, its as sexy as a computer game gun gets.

2. Flamethrower – Wolfenstein 3D

Buy Call of Duty: World at War on Amazon.com or Amazon.co.uk

Oh the infamous flamethrower. I am not sure that this was a weapon of choice in WW2 so realists may not like this one, however walking through a map with the flamethrower on full blast, melting every enemy in sight can be considered as quite a blast! The fact that it comes with unlimited ‘ammo’ (perhaps down to the extremely cheap gas prices in the 1940’s!?) and does as much damage at close range as the wolfenstein 3D rocket launcher, it just can’t be ignored!!

1.  M1928 Submachine Gun – Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway

Buy Call of Duty: World at War on Amazon.com or Amazon.co.uk

‘Eeeets a Tammy Gan’. Many of you may not be surprised that our number one WW2 games weapon is the Al Capone personal favorite the M1928.  It doesn’t matter what game this weapon features in, you just feel like a gangster every time you whip it out.  Do not get this mixed up with the M1A1 model, which features early on in Hell’s Highway.  You can hear the difference between the sound of the M1A1 and M1928 model due to the difference in rate of fire.  The weapon will serve you well throughout the game.
